Endangered Monarch Butterfly

One week ago the Migratory Monarch Butterfly was added to the Endangered Species list. According to IUCN: “The migratory monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus plexippus), known for its spectacular annual journey of up to 4,000 kilometres across the Americas, has entered the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM as Endangered, threatened by habitat destruction and climate change.”

I had just filmed a lonesome Monarch Butterfly fluttering about Milkweeds only a few days prior to the announcement. I then was very fortunate to have an even closer interaction a few days later. I felt very sad to hear the news and knew I had to do something to help raise attention, hopefully with this song and video I can do so.

About the song: My friend John Healy in Philadelphia sent me a bass track he recorded and I built the song around it. I recorded the beat and harp track on my Yamaha Keyboard. I then added synthesizer tracks on my MicroKorg. I then added live guitar and a couple live clarinet tracks. I created the song while inspired by the news of the Monarch Butterflies now being listed as endangered.
